I have always loved horses. Maybe it’s because my wilderness-craving heart was caged within a city-dwelling girl’s body when I was growing up. Yet even now after living in a variety of rural and wild places the horse’s appeal has not lessened for me. As with hares, they inspire my paints and brushes to create their forms and the essence of their nature on paper and canvas.
Perhaps it’s their sheer physical strength, presence and elegant beauty. For even though horses have a long history of service to mankind – whether in agriculture, war or as a means of transport – they remain creatures of a particular wild grace.
